Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival
Meeting at Cyangugu boarder. Welcoming with our staff at the border. Assisted to clear with formalities. Crossing the border and check in at your hotel. If you arrive early, you can take an optional tour of Bukavu city. Places to visit include the cathedral, the big brewery (Bralima), the markets, the hydroelectric center, the famous Panzi hospital, amongst other places of interest.
Overnight in Bukavu.
Day 2: Lowland Gorrilas treks
After breakfast at your hotel, it is time to head to the Tshivanga Station where starts the gorillas’ trecking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park. You’ll receive a short briefing about the lowland gorilla tracking. Following the briefing, you begin your journey along narrow jungle paths to meet the gorillas. The length of this hike depends on the location of the gorillas. Some days they can be 20-40 minute walk from the road into the Forest, other days it can take over an hour of walking to reach the Lowland gorillas as they are always on the move for the search of food.
After tracking, depending on time, you can go for an optional nature walk in the Kahuzi-Biega park and visit Tshibati waterfalls, or visit the research centre or a pygmy village that is on the outskirts of the park. You can also go and see orphaned primates, different kinds of baboons, monkeys and snakes found in Lwiro Sanctuary. After this lifetime experience, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Goma
After an early morning breakfast, be dropped at the harbor. Transfer to Goma. Arrival in Goma, city tour! Goma is the capital city of the North Kivu province. It is located on the northern shore of Lake Kivu, next to the Rwandan city of Gisenyi. On the one hand, the recent history of Goma has been dominated by the eruption of Nyiragongo volcano in 2002 and the lava that buried most of the town’s streets, houses and covered over the northern 1 km of the 3-kilometre (10,000 ft) runway of Goma International Airport. On the other hand Goma has suffered the tragic consequences of the Rwandan Genocide of 1994: the First and Second Congo Wars, which the aftermaths are still felt today in the city and its surroundings.
This tour is an opportunity to visit many attractive sites such as local markets, museums, the lava that burnt the town in 2002 and in 2022, city monuments, lake Kivu, the green lake, Buhimba landscapes, Goma harbour, fishing sites (Nzulo, Bulengo), hotels and restaurants, all the places that make Goma such a fascinating tourist city to explore. It is also an occasion to interact with locals and learn about their history, their life. At the end of the tour, you’ll surely enjoy the experience and be amazed by the resilience capacity of the locals. Overnight in Goma.
Day 4: Masisi/Mushaki
The Masisi excursion includes a visit to Maman Rica’s farm in Mushaki or to Auberge de Rushengo which is a family farmhouse. The farms are located in the Masisi territory in eastern DR Congo, a territory known for its vegetation and its relief comparable to the Alps in Europe. It is a mountainous region with beautiful views that make it one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world. The farms are full of cows, goats, donkeys and some have horses.
Various activities are available on the farm including landscape tours, cheese making, horse riding, etc. Overnight in Goma.
Day 5: Departure
After breakfast at your hotel, guests will be transported to the border Grande Barrière and cross to Rwanda, be transferred to Kigali International Airport.
