Day 3 - 5: Lake Kariba
On Safari: Kariba
One of the world’s largest man-made lakes, Kariba covers nearly 5500 km2 and is renowned for the stunning beauty of its sunsets, dotted islands and iconic drowned trees. The ideal time to head out on safari is early in the morning, as the sun starts to rise and animals are at their most active. Cruise along the waters, watching for game and birds at the lake edge, or perhaps take the opportunity to do some seasonal fishing, if it’s an option. Savour the incredible sounds of the bush and birdsong. During the heat of the midday sun, it’s often best to return to camp for a siesta before heading out in the late afternoon when the lake comes alive again. A sunset cruise is a particularly special way to appreciate the magnificent colours of the sky as the sun goes down. Should it be available, an open vehicle game drive on the shoreline, or walking safari is an exhilarating way to further immerse yourself in the wilderness.

Day 7 - 9: Lower Zambezi National Park
On Safari: Lower Zambezi National Park
Riverine foliage, floodplains, forests and the mighty Zambezi River make this a verdant wildlife destination and a birders’ paradise. Ideally start your day with an early morning game drive, warming up with a coffee stop. If it’s an option, you could spend some time canoeing or tiger fishing, or rest up in a shady spot during the midday heat. A guided walking safari is an exhilarating way to experience the bush from a different vantage point, learning about smaller animals and plant life. In the late afternoon, hop back onto your open safari vehicle and continue the search for game. Alternatively, enjoy a sundowner cruise appreciating the view of hippos, crocs and ellies while on the river. Night drives afford the chance to see a completely different array of animals, found with the help of a spotlight.
