Gibb's Farm
Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania - Classic 4
Surrounded by lush tropical flowers and trees, Gibb's Farm overlooks a coffee plantation. The forest of Ngorongoro Conservation Area starts immediately behind the lodge and terraced gardens afford panoramic views towards the Great Rift Escarpment. Mid-way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, this lovely old colonial farmhouse retains its original character and charm with roaring fires and friendly service.
The main facilities consist of a sitting room, dining room and shop in the old farmhouse, whilst accommodation is within nineteen twin rooms set amongst the gardens. The food is delicious simple fare, produced with vegetables from the farm, fresh and cooked with care. Lunch includes a wide selection of savoury pies and salads, buffet style. Dinner is a four course meal served to your table. Home grown coffee or tea with cakes are available mornings and afternoons in the gardens.
At Gibb's Farm you can spend time enjoying the prolific birdlife or take a walk up through the forest to the waterfall where the elephant and buffalo come to drink and to the elephant caves, made by the elephants in their quest for minerals! Visits to the local primary school and lively public market at the nearby village of Karatu are great fun and of cultural interest. The farm is in the heart of the Rift Valley and is a great place from which to visit some of Africa's most spectacular sites. Lake Manyara National Park and the fantastic Ngorongoro Crater are both day trips. Tarangire National Park with its exceptional elephant population is an overnight stay.
