Ruaha River Lodge
Ruaha National Park, Tanzania - Classic 4
Ruaha River Lodge occupies a unique and privileged position set around a series of rocky kopjes in a bend of the Great Ruaha River, blending seamlessly into it’s surrounding and affording views up and down the river. Game is drawn to the river from the neighbouring hills and guests can witness the great wildlife dramas unfold from the comfort and protection of their self contained natural stone and thatch ‘banda’. With resident hippos and crocs there is always plenty of action to watch and several incidents of lion or leopard kills have been seen from the lodge.
Accommodation
Ruaha’s 24 bandas are sited alongside The Great Ruaha River, all with excellent uninterrupted views, and are constructed out of stone in order to fit in to its surroundings.
In order to provide a personalised visit for all our guests, we have built two dining lodges, each with their own host, so everyone gets the attention they deserve.
One lodge is on the riverside, with hippos and elephants roaming around as you dine. The other is perched on a kopje with phenomenal views over the National park.
Dining/Bar
The first dining area is a long banda by the side of the river. Breakfast is the perfect time to watch the game meander down for a drink, while evenings can be spent around the fire pit, looking down the river, or curled up in one of the sofas with a drink and a book.
The second area is imperiously-positioned atop the largest kopje in the area, situated on a bend, and enjoys commanding views down two sections of the river. This is surely the best sundowner spot in Ruaha.
Activities
Game drives are taken in open, adapted 4WD vehicles. The vehicles have tiered seating and roof shading, allowing the guests to enjoy the closeness to nature. Soft drinks are provided.
Nature Walks are led by our Maasai, who will pass on some of their in-depth knowledge of the land around them.
Walking safari can be arranged with TANAPA at the park headquarters.
In the dry season, when the water levels in the park are low, guests can see as much wildlife from their verandas than they can on a game drive.
