Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Ruaha
On arrival at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the nearby domestic airport for your scheduled flight to Ruaha National Park. On landing in Ruaha, you will be welcomed by your driver guide and enjoy a game drive en-route to Kigelia Ruaha Camp arriving in time for lunch. Kigelia Camp is located in the best game area of Ruaha National Park in a secluded grove high on the banks of the Ifuguru sand river. This intimate camp has just 6 large safari tents simply furnished with bucket showers and locally crafted pale wood furniture to avoid detracting from the beauty of the surrounding bush. After lunch is served in the shade of the Sausage Trees and you wait for the afternoon heat to subside to head out on your first game drive in Ruaha National park, enjoy an afternoon siesta, familiarise yourself with the camp’s surroundings or relax in the cool lounge and socialise with the other guests. After tea and coffee hop into your safari vehicle in search of the fabulous game that inhabits the park including big cats, greater and lesser kudu and large herds of elephants. Return to camp just as the moon replaces the sun and enjoy a piping hot shower before sitting down to dinner.

Day 2 & 3: Ruaha National Park
Over the next two days, you will be able to decide exactly how you would like to spend your days. You may prefer to enjoy a leisurely start each morning heading out into the park after a good breakfast; however we suggest that you rise early for a chance to watch the sun rise over the plains and enhance your game viewing experience. You may prefer to return to camp for breakfast or why not enjoying it in the heart of the bush surrounded by nothing but wilderness. Enjoy a leisurely game drive back to camp and spend the rest of the morning relaxing before lunch is served. Once the afternoon temperatures have cooled, you can head back out to explore the park in your safari vehicle or on foot accompanied by a guide for a completely different safari experience. Make your way back to camp before nightfall in time to enjoy a sundowner cocktail before dinner is served under a star-lit African sky. Alternatively, you may prefer to enjoy a sundowner in a beautiful spot within the park before slowly heading back to camp for another gourmet dinner followed by an evening sharing stories around a blazing camp fire.

Day 4: Ruaha to Selous
Today you head towards Africa’s largest game reserve. After a leisurely breakfast, you will be transferred back to the airstrip in time for your scheduled flight to Selous. Upon landing, you will be met by the friendly face of your driver guide and begin game sporting as you make your way to Sand Rivers Selous. This luxurious camp is composed of just 8 open-fronted stone and thatched cottages designed to offer guests maximum comfort with large cosy beds, plenty of space and incredible showers. Each room is built on a raised on a large wooden deck with stunning panoramic views over the river ensuring that the connection with the African bush is not lost. After freshening up, settling into your and delighting in a light but mouth watering lunch, you are free to explore your new ‘home’ for the next few days. As the day begins to cool, you will head out into the reserve by late afternoon for your first game drive. There is no shortage of game here as the Selous is home to the Big Five as well as many other species including hippo, wildebeest, sable antelope and the more rare wild dogs. As the afternoon turns into evening head back to the lodge where pre dinner drinks have been poured followed by a gourmet three-course dinner.

Day 5: Selous Game Reserve
On day two, we suggest you head out early for the best chance to see game as the animals are most active in the cool temperatures of the early morning. As the sun rises and the day heats up, breakfast awaits you back at the camp. Spend the remainder of the morning relaxing in the cool waters of the swimming pool, on your private veranda watching to resident wallowing hippos or relaxing with a good book. After lunch, if you wish to see the African game from a different perspective, head out on a late afternoon boat cruise on the great Rufiji River (water levels depending). Back on land; enjoy a leisurely game drive back to camp arriving in time to enjoy sundowner cocktails on the main deck followed by piping hot showers and another fine dining experience.

Day 6 : Selous Game Reserve
Start today off at a more leisurely pace and enjoy breakfast while you game spot from the main dining area. Before the day becomes too hot, set out into the reserve on foot in the company of your guide and get a chance to discover the smaller species of the reserve and learn about the relationship between flora and fauna and the medical uses of reserve’s many plants. As the sun rises high into the sky, you will return to camp for a refreshing dip and another delightful meal. This afternoon no activities have been planned but you can continue to game spot from the comfort of your chair before climbing into your safari vehicle and heading out once again into the reserve on a last game drive in search of whatever animals you may not yet have seen. Back at the lodge; dinner is ready to be served.

Day 7: Selous Game Reserve
Today mark your final day on safari. After a busy week touring southern Tanzania’s great parks, we recommend you take the morning off and enjoy a lie before kick starting your day with a tasty breakfast. Enjoy the day’s heat by the swimming pool or in the coolness of the lounge with a good book before lunch is served. The area offers great bird viewing, bird lovers may wish to head out to the river bank to see what species they can spot after lunch. In the late afternoon, once the day’s heat has subsided, take the opportunity to head out on a last game drive in search of whatever animals you may not yet have seen. Once the sun has set, your vehicle will drop you off on the banks of the river where a candle-lit dinner awaits. This offers the perfect setting for your last night.

Day 8: Depart
Today marks the end of your Southern Tanzania tour. You may wish to wake extra early and head out for a final game drive in this stunning park before returning for breakfast and to pack up your rooms. Alternatively, wake up at your own pace and enjoy a leisurely breakfast before you are transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight back to Dar es Salaam.
